The NASCAR Cup Series is back in action this weekend with a trip to Nashville Superspeedway. Hendrick Motorsports has won this race in the last two years, with Kyle Larson (2021) and Chase Elliott (2022) each scoring a victory. Can Hendrick Motorsports make it three in a row?

Larson is the favorite across the board, with his odds ranging from +550 to +600. He should be one to watch on Sunday, but I've got my eye on another top contender.

Denny Hamlin should be a strong contender at Nashville. He fell short of a top-five in last year's race but led the most laps. Hamlin has also been great with the tire compound NASCAR will use this weekend. He had a top-five driver rating at Auto Club and Las Vegas before scoring the victory on Kansas.

Those factors contribute to Action Network's PJ Walsh targeting Hamlin to win Sunday's race at Nashville.

This weekend’s race will be run on the same tire combination that NASCAR used at Auto Club, Las Vegas and Kansas earlier this season.

In those events, Denny Hamlin put up extremely impressive numbers, including a win at Kansas and the best driver rating across all three races.

In addition, Hamlin was very fast at Nashville last year. He led the most laps, ran the most fast laps and posted the top driver rating en route to a sixth-place finish.

For what it’s worth, I’m putting much more emphasis on last year’s Cup Series race at Nashville than the 2021 event since the Next Gen car was introduced prior to the 2022 season.

Based on the data above, you can make a valid argument that Hamlin should be the favorite for Sunday’s race, though he’s available at the very palatable price of +850 at FanDuel Sportsbook.
