Kyle Tucker Fantasy Score More Than 8.5
The second-place Houston Astros host the fourth-place Los Angeles Angels in the first installment of this three-game AL West series.
Left-hander Reid Detmers takes the mound for Los Angeles and should be a good candidate to fade. Through 20 starts, Detmers is 2-8 with a 4.79 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
His underlying metrics suggest that positive regression is unlikely as he ranks in the 37th percentile or lower in Average Exit Velocity, Hard-Hit%, xERA/xwOBA and xBA.
Kyle Tucker is the first Houston hitter to back. Tucker is putting together another tremendous campaign and boasts a .296 BA, a .517 SLG and a .894 OPS to go along with 21 homers.
His underlying metrics are even stronger as he has a .302 xBA, a .538 xSLG and a .397 xwOBA. This strong year is likely to continue against Detmers, someone whom Tucker possesses a .357 BA, a .429 SLG and a .341 wOBA against through 14 career plate appearances.
Additionally, Tucker has surpassed this figure in three of his past four games and is averaging 16.5 fantasy points per game over that stretch.
Jose Altuve Fantasy Score More Than 8.5
Jose Altuve is the other Astros hitter to back Friday.
Entering this contest in tremendous form, Altuve has recorded nine or more fantasy points in each of his past six games. Like Tucker, Altuve's previous success against Detmers suggests this strong stretch of hitting could continue.
Through 12 career plate appearances against the left-hander, Altuve boasts a .300 BA, a .600 SLG and a .437 wOBA. Finally, when facing left-handed pitching since 2021, Altuve's splits jump by roughly 3%.
Shohei Ohtani Fantasy Score More Than 7.5
We are also going to back a member of the Angels in this contest — superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Any excuse to back the league's best player is a good one to me. Ohtani has been strong at the plate lately and has eclipsed this number in six of his past nine games. Yes, he's set to go against future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander, but Ohtani has had his number.
Through 20 career plate appearances against the right-hander, Ohtani possesses a .200 BA, a .600 SLG and a .323 wOBA with two homers.
Ohtani's underlying metrics are almost laughable at this point as he ranks in the 99th percentile in Average Exit Velocity, xSLG and Barrel%.
