The second installment of this three-game interleague series gets underway Tuesday evening with the NL West's San Diego Padres hosting the AL East's Baltimore Orioles.
Right-hander Jack Flaherty takes the mound for Baltimore and should be a good candidate to fade. Through 22 starts, Flaherty possesses a 4.33 ERA and 1.52 WHIP.
His underlying metrics suggest that positive regression is unlikely as he also possesses a 4.56 xERA.
Juan Soto is the first San Diego hitter to back. He is putting together another strong campaign, boasting a .266 BA, .504 SLG and .910 OPS to go along with 24 homers.
His analytics are even stronger as he possesses a .267 xBA, .507 xSLG and .395 xwOBA. Finally, Soto's splits jump by roughly 24% this season when facing right-handed pitching.
Fernando Tatis Jr. Fantasy Score More Than 8
Fernando Tatis Jr. is the other Padres hitter to back on Tuesday.
Entering this contest in great form, Tatis Jr. has surpassed this figure in three of the past four games, averaging 12.3 fantasy points over that span. This strong stretch of hitting is likely to continue against Flaherty, a pitcher whom Tatis Jr. boasts a .500 BA, .750 SLG and .561 wOBA against through five career plate appearances.
Like Soto, Tatis Jr.'s underlying metrics are spectacular as he ranks in the 91st percentile or higher in Average Exit Velocity, HardHit%, xwOBA, xBA and xSLG.
Adley Rutschman Fantasy Score More Than 6.5
We are also going to back a couple of Baltimore hitters in this contest as right-hander Michael Wacha takes the mound for the Padres.
It has been a strong campaign for Wacha, who is 8-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 15 starts. However, his underlying metrics suggest that regression is looming, which is certainly amplified for someone making his first start since July due to a shoulder injury.
Currently, Wacha ranks in the 46th percentile or lower in xERA/xwOBA, xBA and xSLG.
Adley Rustchman is the first Orioles hitter to back. A sophomore slump was not in order for the young catcher this season, posting a .268 BA, .427 SLG and .792 OPS to go along with 16 homers this season.
His analytics are even stronger as he possesses a .275 xBA, .443 xSLG and .357 xwOBA. A switch-hitter, Rutschman's splits jump by roughly 10% when facing right-handed pitching over the past two years.
Finally, Rutschman has previously homered against Wacha.
Anthony Santander Fantasy Score More Than 6.5
Speaking of success against Wacha, Anthony Santander has thrived against him. Through 16 career plate appearances against the right-hander, Santander boasts a .333 BA, .800 SLG and .487 wOBA with two homers.
Also a switch hitter, Santander is solid against both arms but is stronger against right-handers, especially in the power department with 17 of his 21 homers coming against them this season. Santander leads the Orioles in home runs this season, and it would not be shocking if he goes yard yet again in this favorable matchup against Wacha.
