PointsBet Illinois Review Summary
  • Bonuses & Promotions

The sign-up offer at PointsBet — up to $1,000 in bonus bets — is in line with the rest of the industry. But where PointsBet stands out is on event-specific promotions throughout the year. They regularly do "crowd boosters," where a spread will move a point every 100-200 bets taken by the book, which quickly turn into easy wins.

  • Mobile App & Website

PointsBet has one of the best sleekest apps and websites among all U.S. books, and they do a great job of displaying the most popular markets and best daily promotions for bettors. The experience is better on the mobile app than on the web, which can get a little busy with all of the different markets.

  • Registering & Cashiering

We haven't had any issues signing up, depositing or withdrawing funds from PointsBet. They offer fewer payment options than other books, although users can still use credit cards, online banking, PayPal, and a variety of other methods depending on the state. PointsBet is a trusted and regulated sportsbook in IL so you don't have to worry about your money.

  • Betting Options

PointsBet IL offers odds on all major markets, but also has extensive secondary markets like props, unique futures and more. They also allow users to request bets — their "Name a Bet" function — so if you want to wager on a market that doesn't exist, just shoot them a message and they'll work with you on it. What more could you ask for?

Action Network thoroughly evaluated the PointsBet sportsbook based on a couple factors: ease of logging in, in-app navigation, speed, data density, and bet slip.

Does PointsBet Work Differently by State?

You shouldn't experience too much change with the PointsBet Sportsbook app depending on where you are placing your wagers. The app remains the same and regardless of where you're betting. You'll be prompted to give your geo-location to PointsBet when using the app so it can confiirm that you are betting in Illinois. In comparison to other books, BetMGM forces you to make a new account when you want to bet in another state. Caesars often has trouble locating you.

PointsBet App star star star star star

Logging In

PointsBet has a sign-in process that could definitely be improved. Saved email addresses don’t always come up and the iPhone autofill feature wasn’t consistent. PointsBet does offer Face ID log-ins, which can be helpful at times, but the overall process felt average.

BetSlip

PointsBet’s bet slip loads quickly from the bottom of the page. PointsBet offers a “My Bets” feature for users can monitor their recent, current, and future bets. Bettors can also track bets that they have cashed out over time. PointsBet has a very average bet slip experience that could definitely be improved in the future.

PointsBet has a very simple display that makes it easy for Illinois bettors to quickly search through different sports to find the event they want to place a wager on. One thing that we noticed is that there isn’t a home button outside of the option on the drop-down menu. Having one in a better location would definitely make it simpler to navigate the app. The search function could be improved and could include more selections for general queries. PointsBet does try to appeal to bettors that want to place wagers on the local teams, such as the Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, and Bears.

Data Density

PointsBet is near the bottom of the pack as it pertains to game data density, and when you're searching for quick betting action, data density is everything. App design choices like font size and white space that impact layout will determine how much information a bettor has access to at any given moment without having to scroll. PointsBet lags behind its Illinois competitors like FanDuel and BetMGM in every way with its look and feel.

PointsBet Money Management star star star star

Depositing and withdrawing funds with PointsBet is similar to what you'll see with other Illinois sportsbook apps. There are some restrictions based on where users are located but it's unlikely you'll face any problems with taking out or putting in funds.

Deposit Methods

  • Online Banking
  • PayPal
  • ACH/Check
  • Credit/Debit Card
  • PayNearMe

Spending Controls

PointsBet is just like most legal Illinois sportsbooks when it comes to self-imposing spending controls. The controls offered include:

  • Pre-commitment limits: Set a limit on how much you can deposit in 1, 7, or 30 days.
  • Self-exclusion: Stop yourself from betting during a specific period or permanently.
  • Cool-off period: Stop yourself from accessing the site or app for a specific time.

PointsBet Betting Options and Market Coverage star star star star star

PointsBet does not regularly offer the more niche sporting events or betting markets, but you should feel comfortable with PointsBets consistent coverage of the popular markets you've come to expect. You'll find a bevy of player props available for football, matchups for golf, finishing position markets for NASCAR, etc. As an Australian-founded company, PointsBet is continuing to make its presence felt in the U.S., so the sportsbook is one to watch for new and veteran bettors.

PointsBet IL Market Pricing star star star

PointsBet's pricing in Illinois will not change from the other states the sportsbook can be found in. Some people have speculated that sportsbooks would shade their lines toward teams in those specific states since they'd anticipate heavier betting action on those teams, but that hasn't been the case.

Unfortunately for PointsBet Illinois users, you'll see that PointsBet overall hasn't fared well in comparison to other books when it comes to market pricing.

Analysis parameters:

  • Data collected from 1/1/2021-4/1/2022
  • Used closing odds (the odds 30 minutes before game-time) in calculations
  • Each data point is the average book-edge for the month
  • Each # is represented as a percent of the book's edge

The book with the lowest average book edge is considered to have the best price.
